Argentina’s Monaco Hits Brazil Quarters

Argentina's Juan Monaco advanced to the quarterfinals of the Brazil Open with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Brazil's Thiago Alves in a rain-delayed match on Friday.
After bad weather postponed their match Thursday, the 69th-ranked Monaco ousted Alves and will face Argentina's Juan Ignacio Chela in the quarterfinals. Chela defeated Spain's Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo 6-2, 6-3.
Argentina's Guillermo Canas also advanced with a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Spain's Albert Portas. Canas was leading 6-4, 1-0 on Thursday when rain forced officials to suspend the match. Read more
